Technical Standards Program Volunteers Recognized for Service
2016-02-08

ESTA’s Technical Standards Council is pleased to announce the recipients of the third annual Above & Beyond Awards designed to recognize outstanding Technical Standards Program volunteers. The awards celebrate those volunteers that have made a significant contribution or effort that advances the Technical Standards Program. The TSP exists because hundreds of individuals from across the industry volunteer their expertise and significant amounts of time throughout the year to write standards that increase safety, solve problems, and make life easier. These awards are particularly meaningful to the recipients because the nominations are made by their peers within the Technical Standards Program.

The Above & Beyond Awards for 2015 were presented to:

  • Tyrone Mellon Jr. (Electrical Power Working Group) was cited “As a significant contributor to ANSI E1.24, Dimensional Requirements for Stage Pin Connectors and the Task Group leader for ANSI E1.19, Recommended Practice for the Use of Class A Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters. Tyrone has volunteered hundreds of hours in pursuit of important interoperability and safety standards that have made significant contributions to the safety and well-being of the people in our industry.”
  • The E1.43 “Flying Performer” Task Group (Rigging Working Group) was cited for “their hard work, commitment and dedication to writing a standard for flying performers, a difficult and sometimes contentious project. The members of the Task Group are: Mark Ager, Dana Bartholomew, Joe Champelli, Bill Gorlin (Chair), Rod Haney, Dan Lisowski, Joe McGeough, and Orestes Mihaly.
  •  Peter Scheu and Duane Wilson (Stage Lifts Working Group) were cited for “consistently coordinating their efforts and schedules to ensure attendance at Task Group meetings and to facilitate collaboration on homework assignments. Each of them volunteered to take on difficult assignments - helping to share the overall workload. As voting members representing the American Society of Theatre Consultants, they were both adamantly supportive of keeping the Stage Lifts Working Group going at a time when its future was uncertain.”
