New Control Protocols Project to Support VLC Started 2012-02-16Official notice was filed with ANSI today starting the new standard project, E1.45 - 201x, Transport of IEEE 802 data frames over ANSI E1.11 (DMX512-A). The proposed standard will define a minimal method to transport IEEE 802 data frames over ANSI E1.11 physical links using an Alternate START Code. The primary motivation is to allow communication of 802 data to luminaires over a DMX512-A datalink for data transmission from those luminaires using Visible Light Communication, IEEE 802.15.7. However, this standard may be used to transport any 802 data for any purpose. The stakeholders in this BSR E1.45 project have been identified as entertainment lighting controls and luminaire manufacturers; specifiers of entertainment lighting equipment; designers of entertainment, info-tainment, and educational venues; and operators of such venues. All materially affected parties--those whose livelihood or well-being may be affected by the project--are invited to join the Control Protocols Working Group to work on the project. However, the working group is particularly interested in new members who would NOT be manufacturers; the working group already has many luminaire and controls manufacturers on its voting roster. Voting members are required to attend meetings and to vote on letter ballots, however, observer members may contribute to the project, and the general public may contribute by participating in forthcoming public reviews.
