ANSI E1.11-2004 Revision Project Started 2007-08-16The Controls Protocols Working Group has started work to revise ANSI E1.11-2004, Entertainment Technology--USITT DMX512-A, Asynchronous Serial Digital Data Transmission Standard for Controlling Lighting Equipment and Accessories. The work at this time is focused on correcting errors in the published standard and rewriting difficult sections of text that have been shown to be confusing to readers who do not have American English as their native language. Most of the errors are clearly typographical or cut and paste errors, but correcting them may be considered making substantive changes to the document. This project is being announced so that parties who might be affected can comment or become involved if they wish. Therefore, any parties who would be materially affected by the revision of this standard are invited to join the Control Protocols Working Group to work on the revision this standard. The Control Protocols Working Group would have a better balance of interests if it gained members in the dealer/rental company and user interest categories. Information about joining working groups and a link to the working group membership application form are available at http://www.esta.org/tsp/working_groups/index.html. Of course, all members of the the affected public (not only CPWG members) may become involved by commenting on the revision when it is offered for public review. Anybody who wishes to comment or to object to the revision of this standard, because it is unnecessary or because it conflicts with another American National Standard, are invited to send their comments or objections in writing to the Technical Standards Manager at mailto:standards@esta.org. The deadline for comments is 30 days after the publication of the Project Initiation Notification in ANSI's Standards Action, which would be 23 September if the publication is in the 24 August issue, as expected.
