ESTA_Boilerplate_For_Specifiers.txt (updated 15 June 2010 with material from 007.txt) This document provides cut-and-paste text as a convenience for people writing specifications and wishing to reference in those specifications standards developed in ESTA's Technical Standards Program. Use of this text will reduce the probability of undesired equipment or installation practices being offered in response to a bid or a call for proposals because a standard describing the equipment or installation practice was referenced imprecisely. This document of recommended cut-and-paste text will be revised as new standards are published and older ones are revised or reaffirmed, and as better text specifying the standards is written. 1.0 CONTROL PROTOCOL REFERENCE STANDARDS A. Products utilizing the “DMX512” control protocol shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA), ANSI E1.11 – 2008, Entertainment Technology - USITT DMX512-A, Asynchronous Serial Digital Data Transmission Standard for Controlling Lighting Equipment and Accessories. B. Products utilizing the “ACN” control protocol shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA) ANSI E1.17 – 2006, Entertainment Technology - Architecture for Control Networks. C. Products utilizing the “RDM” control protocol shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA) ANSI E1.20 – 2006, Entertainment Technology - RDM - Remote Device Management over USITT DMX512 Networks. D. Products utilizing “Lightweight/Streaming ACN” control protocol shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA) ANSI E1.31 – 2009, Entertainment Technology – Lightweight streaming protocol for transport of DMX512 using ACN. E. Products utilizing a “0 – 10V” control protocol shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA)ANSI E1.3 - 2001 (R2006), Entertainment Technology - Lighting Control Systems - 0 to 10V Analog Control Specification. F. Products utilizing the DMX512 standard Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA), ANSI E1.11 – 2008, Entertainment Technology - USITT DMX512-A, Asynchronous Serial Digital Data Transmission Standard for Controlling Lighting Equipment and Accessories shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: ANSI E1.27-1-2006, Entertainment Technology-Standard for Portable Control Cables for Use with USITT DMX512/1990 and E1.11 (DMX512-A)Products. G. Products utilizing the DMX512 standard Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA), ANSI E1.11 – 2008, Entertainment Technology - USITT DMX512-A, Asynchronous Serial Digital Data Transmission Standard for Controlling Lighting Equipment and Accessories shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: ANSI E1.27-2 – 2009, Entertainment Technology - Recommended Practice for Permanently Installed Control Cables for Use with ANSI E1.11 (DMX512-A) and USITT DMX512/1990 Products 2.0 RIGGING REFERENCE STANDARDS A. Individuals, organizations and companies constructing and/or using wire rope ladders in the entertainment industry will comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard. ANSI E1.1 - 2006, Entertainment Technology - Construction and Use of Wire Rope Ladders. B. Individuals, organizations and companies involved in designing, manufacturing and/or using aluminum trusses, towers and associated aluminum structural components such as head blocks, sleeve blocks, bases, and corner blocks in the entertainment industry shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard. ANSI E1.2 - 2006, Entertainment Technology - Design, Manufacture and Use of Aluminum Trusses and Towers. C. Individuals, organizations and companies involved in the design and construction of manually powered counterweight rigging systems shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard ANSI E1.4 - 2009, Entertainment Technology - Manual Counterweight Rigging Systems. D. Individuals, organizations and companies involved in the design and construction of loudspeaker enclosures intended for overhead suspension, including enclosure construction, component part security, enclosure suspension hardware, manufacturing control systems, structural testing, and product representation shall comply with the following standard, ANSI E1.8 - 2005, Entertainment Technology - Loudspeaker Enclosures Intended for Overhead Suspension-- Classification, Manufacture and Structural Testing E. Individuals, organizations and companies involved in the design, manufacture and/or installation of boom and base assemblies, simple ground-support devices for lighting equipment and accessories shall comply with the rules and regulations of the following standard. ANSI E1.15 - 2006, Entertainment Technology--Recommended Practices and Guidelines for the Assembly and Use of Theatrical Boom & Base Assemblies. F. Individuals, organizations and companies involved in design, manufacturing, use, and maintenance of temporary outdoor stage roofs shall comply with the rules and regulations described in the following standard. ANSI E1.21 - 2006, Temporary Ground-Supported Overhead Structures Used To Cover Stage Areas and Support Equipment in the Production of Outdoor Entertainment Events. G. Individuals, organizations and companies involved in design, fabrication, installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of fire safety curtains and fire safety curtain systems used for theatre proscenium opening protection shall comply with the rules and regulations as described in the following standard. ANSI E1.22 – 2009, Entertainment Technology - Fire Safety Curtain Systems 3.0 ELECTRICAL REFERENCE STANDARDS A. Products utilizing Metal Halide Ballast Power Cables shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: ANSI E1.16 - 2002 (R2007), Entertainment Technology - Configuration Standard for Metal Halide Ballast Power Cables. B. Products utilizing Stage Pin Connectors shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: ANSI E1.24 – 2006, Entertainment Technology - Dimensional Requirements for Stage Pin Connectors. 4.0 PHOTOMETRIC REFERENCE STANDARDS A) Photometric product documentation for stage and studio luminaires used in the live entertainment and performance industries shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA) ANSI E1.9-2007, Entertainment Technology - Reporting Photometric Performance Data for Luminaires Used in Entertainment Lighting. B) Lens quality documentation for pattern projecting luminaires intended for entertainment use shall comply with the rules and recommendations of the following standard: Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA) ANSI E1.35 – 2007, Standard for Lens Quality Measurements for Pattern Projecting Luminaires Intended for Entertainment Use
